Ugh.

I'm terrible at blogging. Really really terrible. One thing I'm not terrible at is finding weird stuff to do, and getting really overly excited about it! Amanda Palmer of the Dresden Dolls, along with the Lexington High School drama students, are performing a play based on Neutral Milk Hotel's album "In the Aeroplane Over the Sea." The show runs this week, and Amanda Palmer will be performing all the music for the show. LETS GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

How I Spent My Flu Season

While being sick slash dying hasn't been aiding in my being productive, it has introduced me to the TV show Arrested Development. I'd heard a lot of friends talk about how hilarious it was, and how disappointed they were when they learned it had been canceled, but I'd never seen it until boredom brought me to hulu.com where all the episodes are online.
I never laughed so hard at different variations of calling someone a chicken, or the lack in using the word "the," but it is really all the tiny details that make this show so funny.

Big Tree

I've developed a habit over the years where I'll find a new band, become completely obsessed with them, and listen to the constantly until all my friends want to murder me. AND SO I'M SHARING THIS NEW OBSESSION WITH YOU!
I went to the Middle East a week or so ago to interview Sarah Rabdau and the Self Employed Assassins, and while I was sticking around for their show after the interview, I saw the band Big Tree. Holy God are they great. If you imagine yourself walking barefoot through the set of a live action Bambi movie, this is probably what would be playing in the background. All of their songs are so pretty and catchy, I just want to listen to them all day. That's why I have been doing just that.

Oops.

Umm so yeah... I kind of haven't posted in a million years. My bad. Anyways, while digging through the records at the Salvation Army on Saturday morning, I stumbled across something AWESOME. I found a first edition recording of Orson Welles War of the Worlds. After the wonderful 50% off sale, I payed a whopping 25 cents. Even though it's all scratched up and doesn't play well, it's pretty cool to be able to hear parts of something that changed a bit of history.

Hmm...

I've been called out a bunch of times recently on my total lack of movie/tv watching. I guess that being a Communications major with a concentration in media studies I should probably start watching some movies and tv. Probably a good plan...

The Grammy Awards

In between making pink cupcakes, I watched the Grammy Awards for the first time ever. Al Green performing with Justin Timberlake (and others) was amazing, It was really cool to hear the way an old song can be totally changed and brought back to life while being performed. There were some other performances that I didn't dig as much, Miley Cyrus and that other chick, U2, who make me want to hurt things, and Coldplay. Blink 182 also performed for the first time since their split, which is awesome, they were my favorite band forever, and were the first concert I ever picked that I wanted to go to.

Vertigo

Last night I watched the Alfred Hitchcock movie Vertigo for the first time in years. Its always really strange watching old movies and comparing them to popular movies and tv shows today. The way people dress, act, gender roles, everything is super different!!

Blog?

So I'm starting this blog for my Comm 229 class. We're just starting off the semester, and so far it seems like a pretty sweet class. We're using this to tie what we're learning into stuff we come across in everyday life. Our first assignment was to watch the documentary Outfoxed. I've done some work before on the biases in news, and so when we started watching the film I was pretty into it. If you haven't seen it, you should check it out, it will really open your eyes.
